I learned this tip over the summer from my super resourceful Aunt Sue (also known as the mother of 5 kids, 2 of them are twins, and homeschooling mama extraordinaire!)
Place your super dirty dish in the sink and fill with hot water. While it is filling, put about a 1/2 Tablespoon of dishwasher powder (for your dishwasher) in the water. Leave it to soak for about 20 minutes.
Come back and rinse and lightly wash the debris out! I have tested this about 10 times now, and it has worked for me every time! I even use the super natural dishwashing detergent from Trader Joe's and that works well. I am not sure what liquid dishwashing detergent does, but it is worth a shot.
It makes me feel like I got to cut in line, or like I just found a dollar in my pocket!

What a great tip!
