One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Sand Toy

We wanted to recycle this idea now that summer is in full swing:

Thinking about buying some new sand toys? How about recycling some of your kitchen items? I'v noticed a few moms doing this, and they seem to be the hit items on the playground. There is something so satisfying for a child to pour sand from a milk carton into a yogurt cup! Much more exciting than those plastic kits from the store . . and better for the earth.

Some other items to try:

  • plastic spoons and forks
  • old baby bottles
  • yogurt cups
  • juice jugs
  • egg cartons
  • cottage cheese containers
  • maple syrup containers
  • empty water bottles

  1. I love this idea! We started doing this earlier this spring, and these are the coveted toys for sure. I also love it because then if we lose one of our "sand toys" [yogurt cups] in the sand or it goes home with someone else, I know I can easily replace it with another.

Jack Johnson would be proud of our "3 R" {reduce, Reuse, Recycle} magic. :) hey, maybe he can sponsor the mamas. hee hee

  2. Yes, let's call upon Jack Johnson. I'm thinking private concert, no husbands.

Oh my goodness, it's late and I'm drunk on Ambien. Pretend I didn't say that.
