Would You Like Some Salad With That Smoothie?

Smoothies are the perfect way to deliver high-impact whole foods to your kids, in a sweet package that they can't refuse. We do a smoothie every morning at our house, and I'm amazed at the foods I'm able to sneak by my kids. We always start with a base of orange juice and frozen fruit for sweetness and texture. Then we might add:

  • ground flaxseeds or almonds - for essential fatty acids
  • yogurt or kefir - for healthy intestinal bacteria and protein
  • carrots - for beta-carotine,vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, manganese, vitamin B6, and iron
  • kale, chard, or spinach - excellent sources of vitamin C, iron, manganese, calcium and potassium
  • tofu - for protein
My daughter often wakes up calling for her smoothie from the crib. What a great way to start the day!

  1. We adore smoothies around here, but we haven't progressed from fruit, milk and yogurt. Those are some great ideas!
