TALK BACK: End of School Year Traditions

We are officially in the full - swing of summer. Watermelon slices...block parties...fireworks...tan lines...bathing suit shopping (ugh)...long summer evenings... it is glorious! But, before summer gets away from us we are wondering if any of you mamas out there have established some traditions for kicking off the end of the school year? My preschooler just completed her first year of preschool and I had lots of plans for ways that we would celebrate the end of the school year, and then we just so happened to move the week after school ended so the chaos of all of that ate up all my creativity.

I love hearing about other families' traditions and would love to hear what you guys do to mark the end of the school year. I have one friend who has kids that ride the bus to school and she surprised them a few years ago by ambushing them with water balloons as they got off the bus on the final day of school. It has now turned into a full on neighborhood ambush on the kids coming home and then escalates into a long water fight with buckets, water guns, water balloons, and slip and slides on every lawn. I want to be a kid coming home from school in that neighborhood!

How do you celebrate the end of the school year?

  1. I love the idea for bombarding the kids with water balloons on their last day of school. What fun!!
If you're interested in sharing your traditions with others or if you're looking to start a new tradition, I invite you to visit my website, Cafe Traditions. The website is all about encouraging people to celebrate traditions. I believe that traditions are such an important part of our lives and a source for so many wonderful memories.
