TALK BACK: Building a Better Sandwich

Sandwiches. They are the quintessential lunch food. And yet the white bread, deli meat, yellow cheese and mayo concoctions of our youth may not be the healthy fare we want to eat as adults.

I am always looking for good sandwich ideas that combine flavor and wholesome ingredients. Today I hit the jackpot on a random combo: toasted sprouted grain bread, organic hummus spread, sliced avocado, sea salt, and lemon juice. This had a fresh, flavorful taste and I think it may be my new favorite. My kids turned their nose, but that's okay. More yummy goodness for me.

What is your spin on the sandwich? Any tasty combos we need to know about?

  2. Thanks for this idea. I love avacados. Recently I have been trying to find vegetarian dishes and skip the meat. My 14 year old daughter is now completely vegetarian plus dairy. I am increasingly tending toward eliminating meat myself for a variety of reasons. If anyone has any good vegetarian recipes or websites I would greatly appreciate your sharing.

  3. This weekend made my kids "grilled cheese" (my 14 yo daughter is also vegetarian. I put cream cheese, nutella, and sliced pears between Yoga brand bread. Bananas or strawberries would be good. It was pretty good!
    I like anything with avocado.
